True Grit: Appalachian Ways
Добавлен 6 июн 2011
Hey y'all, I'm Meagan. My husband Andy and I grew up in rural NC and as newlyweds, decided we wanted something more than the typical American lifestyle. So we started growing our own food, I learned to can and so started this passion of food preservation and knowing where our food comes from.
Even though we grew up around this lifestyle, we still had to learn for ourselves, the ways of our ancestors before us. We now grow a huge portion of our food, including our own meat.
High society and MSM want you to think you don't have time to grow, preserve and cook your own food from scratch, but I am here to help you along the way. As a working mother of 2 on a busy little farm, there is time, we just have to prioritize it.

The Earliest Harvest We Can Remember | Homestead Vlog | July 1, 2024
Today we are getting up our potatoes, the vines are dead and if we leave them they could possibly rot or sprout. This is the earliest either of us remember our potatoes being ready! We are a little concerned with them keeping throughout the heat, but we will do the best we can! Tonight for supper we are having simple baked chicken legs, leftover green beans with new potatoes, stewed squash and FRESH corn!! We are so thankful for our beautiful potato harvest!

Yummy 😋 when I was able to still go camping I cooked like this whether we was way in the woods or sitting beside our favorite lake. I miss being able to do this so much it was always such a good time with our sons and usually their friends . GREAT MEMORIES 😊
Also had really bad cucumber beetles this year to the point I keep me a small bottle of alcohol out near my garden and I just pluck them and put them in.😂 And y’all weren’t lying about the wet and cooler spring this year but the cut off and heat came super fast out of nowhere! Mighty strange this year!
My cucumbers have been coming out just like y’all’s as well. I do live in NC but closer to the border of SC. I do have some silver slicers that look normal but my other variety I’m growing looks like those y’all were showing.😂
I ised to make chow chow pickles Yummy!!
The reason the cucumber ends look like that is because they didnt get fertilized right.
Love yalls channel! Thank you for sharing
Sweet potato 🥔 pie.
That supper looked delicious😋
You guys are the hard working people that I have ever seen, great video ❤️
Look I am 57 years old and been married to the same woman for over 30 years. My post show up under my Wife’s name. My advice to to all young Men is find you a girl that can make Deer Meat and gravy and cat head biscuits and you will have someone that will stick with you and you will enjoy many of life’s greatest times. Just my two cents worth. I promise you Andy is one happy man. A great wife and two beautiful Children. This is what it’s all about.
Great video ❤
Peel eggs by putting a jar with some water add egg close jar and shake.
Girl you are staving me to death with all this wonderful food. That’s the way mama used to make chocolate icing. YUM ❤❤
Oh my,,, that’s good enough to make you slap your mama 😂❤ (not my mama unless you ready to die 😂😂)
Delicious ‼️ I was the one that always had to bring MAC & cheese to dinners. Made it similar to yours. ❤❤
Your kids are adorable and learning how to do skills!😇!!😇!😇!😇!
Very nice work!😇!😇!😇!😇!
I ran across your videos on RUclips. It is good to learn how other people in NC lives. I am from Lexington. In your video when you were preparing the ham for freezing I noticed you had a Speedy’s Barbecue shirt on. Do y’all like to eat there.
That’s a truck load of goodness right there. You do know the breed and the way you raise them makes them so much better than one you buy. Some love put in them bags. I remember my Grand Pa told me that one year he did his hog killing and it got too warm and all his got skippers in them and had to throw them away and that was devastating when it was your Pork for the year and you had all the feed and time invested. After that he would take it and pay to have it kept in a walk in fridge. Couldn’t take that chance again!
I know it would be a risk, but as a farmer, you take risk all the time! My son stands in the bucket on the tractor and his wife raises the bucket up so he can cut limbs that he cannot reach.
What a harvest, and from only 6 roses. I was excited to see them dug with the tractor. Never seen that before. Jacob seems to have the gift for sure. Maggie is a real trooper. Praying your harvests this season will be more than you need. That corn looked amazing too.
Hard workin family right here! Just love to watch y’all’s vids!❤
We have planted sorghum as late as July 15 the later you plant the more of the maturity dates and such go out the window day light hours and such have a huge effect on the plants
Nice size potatoes
Was in kitchen cutting veggies and listening to yall . Heard "U keep that silver hood ornament lined up with that row." Guy's , Lost it laughing, and the memory of my first time driving on paved road with yellow lines, " Keep that hood ornament on that line, don't look away." , the man who cared told me. Love n Grace to yall.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Lol now that is true country girls.....haulimg a calf around in your ride😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jacob did an excellent job! 👏🏼 Great potato harvest! 🥔 Hope no vermins get into them. Yay, you got corn by the 4th! Looks yummy. Have a great Independence Day! 🎉
Watched your video tonight on making lard. So glad it came up on my feed because I’ve been wondering how to do it. Thank you!
And she cuts off the button tail! That’s the filet-mignon of the chicken
Vegetable, Canola and seed oils are soooooooooo bad for the human body. We stopped using them when we discovered this. We cook with Avocado oil for our neutral oil, olive, butter and coconut oil - that's it. We'd use lard if we had animals. Thank you for spreading the word cuz I don't think that many people have woken up to the evils of processed oils in this country. Love, love, love your channel!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Gotta say never seen a saw mill that would bascially move on it's own. Mr. Andy is that because you have the mill on an incline position???
I can’t believe she didn’t save the gizzards, liver and heart? The blood that drains can be chilled and people like myself would by that to make great catfish bait 🤔
Hello, Mike from North Georgia
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s 114 right now in mid California, gonna be like that all week. No breeze, last week we had thunder and lighting with showers.
Yes love potatoes even if I eat out 😊
See you have a travel trailer, suggestion park it where tires are on boards and tilt the front up higher than back for drainage. Camped for 28 years..we learned to do these .
Good job Jacob.I look forward to your videos. Andy just talks and talks and talks.
Wow, you can’t ask for nothing better cornbread with lots of butter on it and peach cobbler. Wow, how tasty 😋
I bet Maggie liked her biscuit and jelly.
Thank you,it was another great video ❤
WOW YOU HAVE SUCH A LOVELY VOICE PERFECT FOR SONGS LIKE THIS 😍 WOULD LOVE HEAR MORE SINGING OF DIFFERENT ONES.

Your canner looks like mine “ well used” someone listed a brand spanking new presto canner for50$ . You can bet I jumped on that deal! I met the lady that had it at Walmart. I was so blessed to get that deal!
OMG!!! Save me a seat at the table, and offer me a small shovel to eat with!!! Incredible, and making me drool a little bit LOL Thank You!
